God, the Ultimate Mentor — Part 2.
A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
Psalm 23:1 (KJV).
The duties and responsibility of a mentor are one of great service. If you have walked this walk with God, you will begin to realise the impact the Word of God has in your life. Your mind has been renewed by the Word. The Word shapes your life and gives you a purpose to be on top no matter what you are going through. In all of this, it is still difficult for one to notice and accept that God has always been your mentor. He wants you to be the best version of yourself. He sent the Holy Spirit to comfort, teach, and lead you.
In a Christian setting most people in the congregation focus on the person in charge. All their testimonies are geared towards the pulpit and not on the many workers that make things happen for them in their various small groups. When we are focusing on serving and out of the blues someone comes out to thank you and explain to you that you are their mentor, you begin to wonder how. A young lady that has always gone against every advice I gave to her, even went as far as not communicating with me for two years, called me out of the blues to thank me for positively influencing her life. She mentioned over and over that I am her mentor. In a moment like this, I am speechless. I don’t understand. How can this be? I thought I infuriated her because she was avoiding me.
Some people will come back and thank you for mentoring them and yet you never knew you mentored them. This also made me think about God, the ultimate mentor. And how much you need to thank Him for His mentoring in your life. Think about it. Remember those times when you were in a dilemma and unsure of how to proceed, and you prayed and asked God for guidance. God kept you from making unwise choices many times. Think of all the times when you were in a mess and God’s word gave you wisdom and as you applied it in that situation, it helped you salvage your life from some disaster. God’s got your back.
