The Sure Word for Today's quotation for the week:
God Gave Is Awesome.
Some Facts About Life — Part 4.
All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.
Ecclesiastes 1:7 (KJV).
The fourth fact about life from our series: DON’T MAKE MOUNTAINS OUT OF MOLEHILLS.
“Making a mountain out of a molehill is an idiom referring to over-reactive, histrionic behaviour where a person makes too much of a minor issue. It seems to have come into existence in the 16th century. The idiom is a metaphor for the common behaviour of responding disproportionately to something - usually an adverse circumstance. One who makes a mountain out of a molehill is greatly exaggerating the severity of the situation.
Similar idioms include Much ado about nothing and Making a song and dance about nothing. The meaning finds its opposite in the fable about the mountain in labour that gives birth to a mouse.” Wikipedia.
The truth is we all, including you and me, exaggerate sometimes. Minor problems can be magnified. To a certain extent, the tendency to make mountains out of molehills has to do with worrying and having an obsessive way of thinking. Making a mountain out of a minor problem is a toxic habit. It occasionally starts from childhood and continues throughout a person’s life. It influences families, relationships, and jobs as well. It is true that sometimes letting a few things go is even better than worrying over something minor. For some people, exaggeration of this magnitude becomes a part of their normal human behaviour.
Making up things worse than they really are will only create more challenges in that same pattern. This behaviour will become toxic quickly because it will become a pattern of life, and it will make you afraid to pursue your dreams. You will be fearful of relationships and even scared of every little thing that could happen in the future. To stop thinking in this fashion, you will have to associate with people with an optimistic mindset about life. Think about things that are pure and good. Be optimistic about life, and every problem will give you the solution.
Making a mountain out of molehills is creating your own storm. Unfortunately, some people create their own storms and then get mad when it rains. Learn to acknowledge your mistakes before someone exaggerates the story.
