Stand Still and See — Part 4.
And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.
Exodus 14:13 KJV).
The first word Moses said to his people was "Fear Not." Anytime an angel wants to speak to the human, they say, "Fear Not." Why? Angels understand the reflexive fear in human beings. These angels often came with good news, yet they asked the humans not to be afraid as the angels related their message. I think the angels know we shrink from anything unfamiliar, even if it's for our greatest good.
There are situations, crises, famine, challenges all happening around you. I want to reassure you. Do not be afraid of everything happening so far. God is not dead; he is alive. F-E-A-R has two meanings: "Forget Everything And Run" or "Face Everything And Rise." The choice is yours. Let your faith be more significant than your fear.
The next word from Moses is "Stand Still." It is difficult for you not to do something when things are going wrong. Sometimes, the solution to specific problems is to do nothing. It requires discipline to do nothing. "Stand Still" is an action. It is what I call the action of non-action. It requires concentration to stand still. When you are standing still, you are trusting God. You are casting all your burdens unto the Lord because you trust that he cares for you. You believe him when he said he will bear your burdens.
Stop being too serious about situations in your life. You must learn to cultivate a state of being in which your actions are quite effortlessly, in alignment with the ebb and flow of the elemental cycles of the natural world. It is a kind of "going with the flow" that is characterised by greater ease and awareness, in which—without even trying—you're able to respond ideally to whatever situations arise.
The highest virtue is to act without a sense of self. The highest kindness is to give without a condition. The highest justice is to see without a preference. Silence and non-action are the roots of all things. Learn to work without doing.
