Strike the Right Balancers — Part 4.
A false balance is abomination to the Lord: but a just weight is his delight.
Proverbs 11: 1 (KJV).
The POSEC method of personal time management is a popular method of time management strategy you can apply in your life. POSEC stands for "Prioritising by Organising, Streamlining, Economising and Contributing."
Prioritising is arranging your activities or task in order of importance relative to each other. It is about how you use your tasks effectively about your goals.
POSEC is roughly based on Abraham Maslow Hierarchy of Needs. POSEC gives you a practical tool for setting your priorities about your own unique needs and goals in life.
The second part of the POSEC method for time management is "Organising." You plan the organisation by setting out your goals to help you feel more stable and secure. It involves things you must do regularly to succeed. It is a plan to meet your basic needs such as shelter, clean water, healthy food, appropriate clothes, and adequate safety. It also includes the acceptance and love of other people.
The third part of the POSEC method for time management is "Streamlining", which is about what you may not like to do but must do. Streamlining applies to those "dirty" little jobs such as work and chores that are important for living correctly. It involves managing and maintenance of your personal stability and security.
The fourth part of the POSEC method of time management is "Economising." These are activities you enjoy, and it includes activities like socialising. They may be fun but not urgent. They should be the least on your priorities of tasks.
The final and fifth part of the method of POSEC is "Contributing." This is about your social obligation. The only word that qualifies you to receive is when you give. This is about what you give back to the world. This is about you making a difference. According to Maslow's understanding of the human psyche, this becomes more feasible when your other goals are achieved.
Balance is something you create, not something you find. There is no such thing as work-life balance - it is all life. The balance has to be within you. Balance is the key to everything. What we do, think, say, eat, feel all require awareness, and we can grow through this awareness.
