Boss Your Attitude — Part 2.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Philippians 4:8 (KJV).
The effects of a bad attitude are enormous. The cost is massive and cannot be calculated. It is a significant loss. Most people with a bad attitude are low performance. I said most people because there are exceptions. There are some people with a nasty attitude that is super-successful. There is no guarantee that you will be among the super-successful with a bad attitude. The statistics are not in anyone's favour. You want to give yourself the best chances available to succeed. You don't want to sabotage and jeopardise your success. You don't want to stand in your own way and become a stumbling block.
When someone with a negative perspective bump into challenges, they ask, "Why me?." A person with a positive outlook faces challenges and asks, "What can I do to overcome this?" and they find solutions. It doesn't matter if your workload is less or much; the fact remains that work can be very stressful. The pressure placed on you is enormous. You need the right attitude to triumph. You need the right mindset to have the proper perspective that will enable you to effectively use your time. Your time matters.
When the attitude in the workplace is negative or toxic, the work becomes challenging for the team, and it becomes even more challenging to accomplish the simple task, which is time-consuming; it is time-wasting. A bad attitude can spill over and affect other departments, floors, and an entire organisation. A positive attitude is great—but negativity can be a problem. Some effects of negative attitudes include lower productivity, higher rates of absence, less team cohesion and low morale. The overall impact of a bad attitude is time-wasting.
Sometimes a bad attitude may be part of your longstanding pessimistic personality or result from the stress you are experiencing outside work. Your negative attitude hurts your career, strains your interpersonal relationship, and gets you fired. A negative attitude reduces the quality of work, making it extremely difficult to overcome obstacles.
