The Five Stages of Conflict — Part 3.
In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.
Psalm 94:19 (KJV).
The next stage from the Latent Stage of conflict is the Perceived Stage. The participants engaged in the conflict become aware, conscious, and realise or understand they are involved in a row.
Already you know I am not against or condemning conflict because I know it can be a good thing base on how you respond to it. I have engaged in series of conflict in my life, and they all never ended the same because it requires an all-party contribution to make resolution effective. Sometimes it takes sacrifice, compromise, and understanding. Conflict is natural, standard, and essential. Conflicts can strengthen a relationship by clearing the air of grievances, making space for a deeper understanding, and increased closeness. It allows you to express your needs, and in this way, demonstrates concern and regard for yourself.
For instance, I had a conflict with a friend, and we resolved the matter. I believed we did not address the root cause. We made peace and continued our friendship as usual. After seventeen years, a joke created an outburst where he dressed me down, referring to the conflict I presumed was resolved. I had to reach out to him, so we deal with the root this time around. We did and resolved the issue for good.
A conflict is more than just a disagreement. It is a situation in which one or both parties perceive a threat. The moment you perceived there is a conflict would you ignore it? Conflicts continue to fester when ignored. You need to address the perceived threat.
People cope with life events in different ways. You must be patient and stop juding others with your limited and holier than thou standards. You do not know what is behind their stories. You have no clue what they are dealing with. Stop judging. Also, do not look down on yourself. You are not the only one going through stuff. Others are too, but they are good actors. They know how to pretend or rather how to handle their affairs. Embrace life, get in touch with your emotions and be the master of your destiny. Don’t get discouraged by what you are going through. Your time is coming. Be patient.
