Stand Still and See — Part 1.
And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.
Exodus 14:13 KJV).
The children of Israel were forced to become slaves in a country that gave them citizenship. It was not a situation that was planned. The meticulous nature of Joseph, how he handled the world recession made him famous and respected by Pharoah, who invited and accepted Joseph's family and nation. Joseph and his brothers died, and the children of Israel multiplied in the land of Egypt. They held important positions and played an essential role in its political, cultural, and economic life. It is not surprising that they stirred the jealousy of the native Egyptians who felt outshone by the "foreigners."
The Israelites had been in Egypt for generations, but now that they had become so numerous, the current Pharaoh at the time feared their presence. He stressed that one day the Israelites would turn against the Egyptians. He had no sympathy or love for the children of Israel and chose to forget all that Joseph had done in Egypt. He called his council together, and they advised him to enslave these people and oppress them before they grew too powerful. Pharoah decided to act against the growing influence and numbers of the children of Israel. Gradually and secretly, he forced them to become his slaves. He made the slaves build grand 'treasure cities. ' He took away their citizenship right and created a new immigration status. They were no longer welcome in Egypt. They were censored.
Despite all the restrictions and hardship imposed by Pharoah on the Israelites, he was still worried that his Israelite slaves would revolt against him. So, he ordered a terrible punishment. He made life very unbearable for the Israelites. Pharaoh limited the personal freedom of the Hebrews, levied heavy taxes on them, and recruited their men into forced labour regiments under the supervision of harsh taskmasters.
No matter what you are going through, remember this fact about you; you were given this life because you are strong enough to live it. Stop limiting yourself. God will fight for you.
