The Cost of Time — Part 7.
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.
Ecclesiastes 3: 1 (KJV).
The price of a product is determined by the law of supply and demand. Consumers have a desire to acquire a product, and producers manufacture a collection to meet this demand. The price you are willing to pay for a commodity is determined by the value you place on the item. The cost tag on a product is not the actual true value of the product. It is the value the seller places on the item. Sometimes we bargain. Our agreed amount is determined by the importance we put in the commodity in question.
What is the cost of your time? Is your qualification undermining your worth in the marketplace? You are a commodity if you are not aware so. Every time you present your resume out there for recruiters, you sell your skills and want them to understand how valuable you are. You have indicated this through your certifications and work experience. You even have a referee who speaks and gives testimony about how useful you were when they employed your services. Through word of mouth, they convince your prospective employer to value you as well.
There are certain professions where you are stuck and cannot increase your value any further. I understand it is not about money; it is a fact your job, no matter how little you earn, gives you a passion and a purpose. But why should the cost of your time suffer? You can get more in life by the time you invest in this purpose-driven job of yours. The question is simple but challenging. What is the value of your time? How you value, your time is personal to you and does not depend on how others value their time. It is your time. You are the master, and you know what is right for you.
Your time is a finite resource. How you make use of it makes a significant difference in your life. Since time is finite, everything you do in life contains a trade-off. Everything in life is based on the Fear Of Missing Out, or in the acronym, FOMO. No matter what, whatever you’re doing right now, you’re missing out on something else.
