The Sure Word for Today

Strong Marriage Foundations.

Key Bible Verse:
“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:”
— Matthew 7:24

The Affirmation
Our marriage is built on Christ, wisdom, and obedience. We choose love, honour, patience, and truth daily, and our home stands strong through every season.

Strong Marriage Foundations. Part 2

The Sure Word Devotion
Day 2: Choose Daily Obedience
Strong marriage foundations are built through daily obedience, not occasional emotion. It is possible to know what is right and still avoid doing it. A husband may know he should listen better, but keep interrupting. A wife may know she should speak with respect, but keep reacting from frustration. Marriage grows stronger when both people do what Christ teaches, not only when they agree with it in principle.

Obedience in marriage is practical. It shows in tone, patience, forgiveness, honesty, service, and self-control. It means you choose the right response even when your feelings are loud. It means you stop defending harmful habits and start correcting them. Love becomes stronger when obedience becomes consistent. A marriage cannot stand firmly when both people only obey God when it suits their mood.

Today, choose one area of obedience and practise it clearly. Do not wait for your spouse to change first. Take responsibility for your part. Speak gently. Listen properly. Apologise sincerely. Keep your word. Pray before reacting. Daily obedience may feel small, but it builds a strong foundation over time. Every right action adds strength to the home.

Reflection and Application
Where have I known the right thing but delayed doing it?
What attitude needs correction today?
What act of obedience will strengthen our marriage?
How can I respond better under pressure?
What habit must I practise daily?
