The Sure Word for Today

Supporting others through mental illness is an act of love, but it requires balance. God calls you to bear one another's burdens, but not at the expense of your well-being. Even Jesus, who bore the world's most significant burden, often withdrew to pray and recharge (Luke 5:16). Taking time for self-care allows you to offer genuine help without resentment or burnout. Prioritising your health ensures you can continue to be a source of support and strength.

Consider Martha in Luke 10:38-42. She was overwhelmed with serving while her sister Mary chose to sit at Jesus' feet. Jesus reminded Martha that caring for your soul is equally important. As you support others, find moments to rest in God's presence. Let His wisdom guide you in setting boundaries, knowing that your worth does not depend on how much you do but on your faithfulness and love.

Supporting without losing yourself means embracing God's design for balance. You are not called to carry every burden alone. Instead, lean on Christ, who strengthens you, and trust Him with what is beyond your capacity. By caring for your own needs, you reflect His love sustainably, honouring both Him and those you support.

Let Us Pray

Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me to love and support others. Please help me to do so with wisdom and balance. Teach me to prioritise my well-being, trusting You to handle what is beyond my control. Give me the courage to set boundaries that honour Your will and protect my peace. Strengthen me to reflect Your love in all that I do. May my actions bring healing to others and glory to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
