"The Abundance of the Free Favour of the Lord." Luke 4:18-19
Hi Visitor,
Reflective listening is one of the most powerful ways to show that you truly understand and value someone. Proverbs 18:2 warns, “A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.” Many people listen only to reply, not to understand. Reflective listening involves repeating back or summarising what someone has said to confirm that you heard them accurately and that their feelings are valid.
When you practice reflective listening, you help the other person feel seen and heard. It reduces misunderstandings and prevents unnecessary escalation. Phrases like “What I hear you saying is…” or “It sounds like you feel…” create safety and encourage openness. This simple but powerful habit transforms conflict into connection and opens the door for healing.
Today, aim to listen reflectively in every important conversation. Instead of jumping in with your perspective, take time to reflect what you hear. This will deepen trust and turn even the most tense discussions into opportunities for mutual growth and peace.
Think about a moment when someone repeated your words back to you in a caring way. It likely made you feel understood and respected. Let that inspire how you listen to others today.
Jesus often repeated or rephrased questions to help people see their hearts more clearly. His gentle responses guided people to self-awareness and healing. Follow His example in your listening.
Write down one relationship where reflective listening could transform your communication. Then write, “Today, I will listen to understand, not just to respond.” Use this as your guide.
"True listening is not about preparing your reply but reflecting their heart back to them with care."
May God bless your heart with patience and wisdom to practice reflective listening. May He help you create deeper connections and build trust through your words and silence. Let your listening become a source of peace and healing in every relationship. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
