Discipline offer great clues about its current meanings. The Old French ‘descepline’ referred to punishment and suffering. The Latin ‘disciplina’ meant “instruction, teaching, and learning.”

Discipline is also a certain branch of knowledge of study. It is a process of controlling one’s behaviour and actions, either through self-motivation or through teaching and punishment. Discipline is the practice of training people to obey rules or a code of behaviour, using punishment to correct disobedience. Discipline is the quality of being able to behave and work in a controlled way which involves obeying rules or standards. If you refer to an activity or situation as a discipline, you mean that to be successful in it, you need to behave in a controlled way and obey rules or standards.

Discipline is an effective habit and effective habits lead to effective results.  Ineffective habits produce ineffective results. You must discipline yourself to seek awareness and rid yourself of ineffective habits. Discipline, along with a positive attitude, is within your control. Do not allow those ineffective habits to control you and your future. Discipline is a complete process which includes personal awareness, desire, determination, recognition and reward.

Make discipline a daily habit. Habit change into character.  A habit is a regularly repeated behaviour pattern that you continue until it becomes a natural part of you. Once a habit has become a part of you, it has become a part of your character. Motivation is what gets you started, habit is what keeps you going. All bad habits start slowly and gradually and before you know you have the habit and the habit has you. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence is not an act, but a habit.

Discipline makes you more productive. Highly disciplined people do not entertain procrastination to enter into their lives. Most disciplined people do not engage in unproductive activities. They are more efficient than most. If you want to be on top you need to start by planning now. You need the discipline to stick to the plan. You need the courage to make changes if things are not working according to the plan. You need to be creative. Discipline gives you more sense of direction in life.

Discipline gives you a higher level of awareness. People who have practiced managing their time and work gain a higher level of awareness as they practice observing different factors that will hinder them from achieving their goals. They also observe those people or things that might help them to make their tasks easier. Not so many people have a high level of discipline these days. If you have one, people will look at you as if you are a superhero figure who can achieve many tasks in a small amount of time.

When you are disciplined, it is easy to take responsibility and accountability. This means lots of people will be depending on you. You will become the shining light in their tunnel. Discipline people know how to handle difficult situations and the emotions. There are many variables in life that will decide your success in any endeavour. Your skills, daily routine and habits, your attitude all contribute to a large extent to your achievements. Despite all the available variables, the most essential variable is your self-discipline. Nothing else so much decides how successful you become as to be self-disciplined.

Self-discipline is the number one character needed to successfully pursue your dreams. Its impact can be felt throughout all areas of your life. If you are serious about the accomplishment of your dreams and living a happy life, self-discipline is very crucial and mandatory.

Self-discipline is the ability to control yourself and to make yourself, work hard or behave in a way without needing anyone else to tell you what to do. Self-discipline the act of disciplining or power to discipline one’s own feelings, desires, etc., especially with the intention of improving oneself. It is the ability to control your desires, actions, and habits. Self-discipline is the ability to avoid an unhealthy excess of anything that could lead to negative consequences.

One of the main characteristics of self-discipline is the ability to forgo instant and immediate gratification and pleasure, in favour of some greater gain or more satisfying results, even if this requires effort and time. Lots of people are finding it hard to pursue purposes that result in a long-term gain. They want instant gratification and when things do not work out as they plan, they throw their pram and get depressed. It looks like the world is on top of them. All they need is patience and continue to work hard with the view of the long-term in mind.

Exercising self-discipline will not deprive or limit you. It is fun. It is magical, and the outcome is unspeakable. It is the expression of inner strength and staying power, vital for dealing with the affairs of daily life and for the achieving of goals. Self-discipline, together with willpower, can help you overcome laziness, procrastination, and indecisiveness. These skills make it possible to act and persevere with it, even if the action is unpleasant and needs effort. Self-discipline enables you to exercise moderation in what you do, become more patient, tolerant, understanding, and considerate. In addition, it helps you withstand external pressure and influence.

Frustration is not a key to any door. Patience is a lifelong spiritual practice, it is a way to find emotional freedom. Patience does not mean passivity or resignation, but power. It is an emotionally freeing practice of waiting, watching, and knowing when to act. To frustrate means to obstruct or make ineffectual. Frustration is a feeling of agitation and intolerance triggered when your needs are not met. It is tied to an inability to delay gratification. Frustration prevents emotional freedom.

A self-disciplined person is more punctual and invests more time and effort in what he or she does. A self-disciplined person is more likely to take control of his or her life, set goals, and take concrete steps to achieve them. Self-discipline begins with the mastery of your thoughts. If you do not control what you think, you cannot control what you do. Self-discipline enables you to finish what you start. A self-discipline is a form of freedom.

Self-discipline sets the road to success. The road to wherever begins with self-discipline. Navigating the road to any goal involves having the self-discipline necessary to steer a steady course and avoid those potholes. Self-discipline allows you to work systematically and progressively toward a goal without being derailed by the many road hazards that exist.

A diluted focus will produce a diluted result. You must avoid distractions and focus your energy on the task at hand. There is a four-step process for getting things done: You think it, you speak it, you act it, and it happens. Words are very important. Words can improve your discipline and words can destroy it as well. Words are the first manifestation of ideas or thoughts into the real world.

Part of self-discipline is knowing what you need to do and then doing it. Do not wait until you are ready, take massive determined actions. Stop making excuses.
