Aristotle once said “Dignity does not consist in possessing honours, but in deserving them.” Leadership is much the same way, as leadership does not consist in possessing a title; it consists chiefly in deserving that title. And you earn and deserve your title as a leader in only one way….by

actually leading: that is by positively influencing others through your words and deeds to do what they otherwise would not be able to do, if left to their own devices. You need to develop yourself to the level where you can lead others.

We are all constantly seeking a better life from the one we have at the moment. In order to have a better life you need to develop yourself and continue to grow. You have a goal in mind, you stay focus on your vision because you belief that having a better life is possible. So what then happened along the way in this long journey of having a better life? At this point in your life, you dreamed of achieving great things and living a life of value and purpose. Your dream never materialize and it looks like you’re struggling and nothing seems to make sense anymore.  Regrettably, the demands and frustrations over the years have dampened those hopes and crushed those dreams.  You have now settled for a mediocre life and accept you will just get by. You no longer have any vision for your future; you are just trapped on an endless merry-go-round that leads nowhere. Truth is it doesn’t have to be like this.

It’s time to stop what you’re doing because it’s not working and you’re only wasting valuable time. You're thinking stopping is taking all your time because you must do something. I am not asking you to stop and do nothing. I want you to stop and practice the first step towards succeeding and making progress in this mission. Your first step is to take an honest look at your life, and your situation, and figure out what needs to be changed. The next thing you need to do is make a plan to move forward. Anything worth doing takes time and effort. To change your life requires dedicated effort. Sometimes it’s difficult. Nothing good comes easy. This is not going to be easy but I am convinced that if you’re determined you will succeed.

Don’t be cheap and never give up when things are not working according to plan. Nobody ever told you that life will be easy. There is nothing like an Easy Street so you must consciously arise to the occasion when the situation demands your attention. No matter where you are today, your life is a work in progress. Your personal growth will always be a lifelong pursuit. Only you can decide whether you are pursuing exiting dreams or a boring unfulfilling existence. Every morning is a new day and another opportunity given to you to improve your life.

There will never be a day that you are not presented with choices. So you just need to make the decisions and take the actions that will change your life for the better. You are completely and totally responsible for your own personal development. It is down to you to act on what you learn, and do this consistently. The key word here is consistently. When was the last time you stopped your daily routine, got off the merry-go-round and asked what am I doing to improve my life? Stop all the excuses and stop blaming the world and everyone else. This is the time for you to take action in improving your life.

Personal development is the act or process of understanding and developing oneself in order to achieve one’s fullest potential. Personal development is a vital part in a person’s growth, maturity, success and fulfilment. It is the foundation of mature personality, better relationship, happiness, success and prosperity. Unfortunately, however, not everyone is aware of the importance of personal development. It wasn’t given much attention at home, work or in school. People give more importance to academic and professional achievement rather than personal growth. This has caused a lot of emotional struggles that many people go through in life because they lack the soft skills which are crucial to one’s success and happiness. Such lack of self-understanding and principle-cantered way of living blocks one’s ability to live an enjoyable and successful life. The lack of personal development limits your opportunities in life so you must take it serious.

Personal development is not just about your career and profession but about your total being. You must not neglect all the other areas of your life, such as physical health, social relationship, financial growth and stability, and emotional growth. A career-driven lifestyle will result in you living a stressful, tiring and boring life. You will become easily irritated, and you will complain a lot and not just that but you will always see the negative side of things rather than the positive. This could make you so too strong-willed and closed-minded that it will be too hard for others to cross a point with you and reason with you. You need a balance life.

Humans are industrious creatures. We don’t like to stagnate. We hate jobs that lack purpose or ones where every day feels the same. We like to be challenged, and we like to feel progress. If we’re staying in the same place for too long, we become lethargic and our spirits dulled. We need changes of scenery and new horizons; a continued influx of reasons to get out of bed in the morning. For me personally, personal improvement has taken on a central role. Part of the thought process of deciding how I want to live my life involves observing the habits and lifestyles of people who exhibit the kind of values I want to achieve in my own life. One thing I noticed was that it was rare for me to hold in high regard a person who didn’t own and read a lot of books – after noticing this I made an effort to start collecting and reading more books myself. Adopting the habits of people whose characteristics you admire seems a useful heuristic for developing those same characteristics yourself.

Personal development is not just about maximising a person’s potential, but it is about living a fulfilled life. Living a fulfilled life requires a person to know what they want – knowing what will make them happy. There’s not much worse than living your life according to someone else’s idea of what will make you happy and then finding out at the last minute that it wasn’t for you. Personal development isn’t just about skills, it’s about learning. Without personal development, we’d just drift along wherever the current might take us.

Stop making excuses and start taking action in improving your life. Let me assure you, no matter what excuse you can point to, none of them can stand in the way of your future happiness. Only you can do that, your choices, your decisions, your action or maybe more your inaction. These are what hold you back. Stop being a stumbling block, road block and hindrance. You have come a long way so stay out of your way and give yourself a very valuable chance to succeed in life. What do you need to succeed? You need to make just one change in your life and I believe you will succeed once it is made. You need to incorporate personal development into your daily affair. If you find yourself feeling negative all the time, and you can’t stop complaining with a lot of things, I encourage you to start learning and understanding personal development.

Here are some of the reasons why personal development is important:

It helps you understand yourself better
It assists you in creating your goals and life purpose
It guides you in managing and spending your time effectively
It enhances your ability to handle stress, adversity and change
It supports you in managing your finances more wisely
It teaches you to build better relationship with people
It allows you to live a balanced lifestyle
It provides an opportunity to take care of your health

Personal development is like how you nurture a plant. If you don’t recognize the importance of personal development, you will continue living through life’s hard circumstances feeling like a victim instead of a victor. You will stick to your belief that you cannot do something to change and improve your situation. As such, you will continue complaining and being negative with almost everything in your life. You will constantly feel lost with your own life purpose, struggling to find who you are and what you want to become. But if you open yourself in learning personal development, you will experience a great leap in your life. You will start to become more positive in your outlook, you will be more proactive rather than reactive, you will start to create your life rather than letting circumstance create it, you will be able to find your own purpose and enjoy your life to its fullest.
